I thought I saw it all. The juice of everything -- including the cucumber (pickle, to be more specific) -- is being marketed as the isotonic solution to Gatorade. Then I walked into Whole Foods tonight and saw Amy & Brian's Coconut Juice. On the back, it said it was an isotonic drink perfect for before or after exercise to help combat dehydration. Perfect, except for the fact that it was one of the most hidious things I've ever tasted. Just to clarify coconut juice is the water that is found inside young coconuts. I can't imagine anyone choosing this over Gatorade -- or even pickle juice for that matter.
YUCK!

Didn't Tom Hanks in "Cast Away" tell us that Coconut milk is a natural laxative? I'm sure that's what athletes need right after a tough workout- a laxative drink.

Is the last Ice Flavor being phased out?
At my local CVS today, Watermelon Ice is on clearance for 50% off (none of the other flavors have similar clearance prices in effect). This might be just this particular store or chain, but it's possible that Watermelon Ice is being phased out in favor of newer "light" flavors such as the Rain line.
If this was the case, it would be interesting not only because the last flavor of the long-standing Ice line (at least regarding the regular-sized bottles; All-Stars Ice Punch still exists, though that is a sweeter flavor) would be gone, but also because this would be the first flavor line that has gone fully extinct as Frost, Fierce, Extremo, X-Factor, Rain, and A.M. still have flavors going strong.
Also of interest is that if Watermelon Ice is gone, then Gatorade drinkers looking to avoid artificial colors would be out of luck, other than the All-Stars Ice Punch, which in its small size, doesn't make a lot of sense for someone who is working out.

I love coconut juice. It tastes great, but the stuff you get in Mexico, where they just cut open a green coconut is better than the canned stuff - which has sugar added to it. To me gatorade tastes like that powdered lemonade mix (or Tang) mixed with copious amounts of MSG. Not fit for human consumption.

Gatorade is much better than unsweetened coconut juice. I want to try that Mexican coconut juice though.

I tried a natural coconut water called cocofina. It does not have any sugars added to it and is closest to the real thing comparing with what I had in Brazil

You people really love the fake shit. Got to have that corn syrup! You all probably think a good BBQ consists of hamburgers and hot dogs and real Mexican food is Taco Bell.
It may be in a can but it's a hell of a lot better than that Gatorade crap.
It's so hydrating that they used it (young coconut water) in WWII as a plasma replacement when they ran out.
Try putting Gatorade in your veins and see what happens!

Justin...right on!
Coconut water it "Nature's Gatorade"! I bought a canned coconut water (no sugar no added water) called Amy & Brian. There are 3 different kinds like one with the chunks or pulp of coconut, one without pulp, and my fav is the one with added lime...you know "put the lime in the coconut"
It's sweet...It's refreshing It's tasty.

COCONUTS CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE
by Jeremy Safron (www.lovingfoods.com)
* The coconut is one of the greatest gifts of this planet.
* Coconuts are a prehistoric plant which can survive many months floating at sea.
* The coconut is a natural water filter that takes almost 9 months to filter each liter of water. The water travels through many fibers being purified where it is stored away STERILE in the nut itself.
* This coconut water is pure clear and is one of the highest sources of electrolytes known to man.
* Coconut water is identical to human blood plasma which makes it the universal donor. Plasma makes up 55% of human blood. By drinking coconuts we give ourselves a instant blood transfusion.
* Many peoples lives have been saved in 3rd world countries by the coconut IV.
* Coconuts in their young stage of growth are the most health enhancing.
* Drink at least one a day (I drink 5 or 6).
* Coconuts are a great blood purifier.
---Try that with Gatorade!

Coconut water has five times more electorlytes and fifteen times more potassium than Gatorade, how can you even compare? Gatorade is just added sugar to water to give you that extra kick while you are working out and your body shouldn't be subject to such high spikes in your blood sugar levels, thats how people get to become diabetic--to much refined sugar in your diet. Zico, the all natural coconut water is the best tasting coconut water around and has least amount of calories. Zico only gets their coconuts from Parra, Brazil and are grown pesticide free. That goes a long way as I am trying to move away from processed foods and into the natural world. Oh and by the way, Amy and Brian's coconut water that comes in a can has higher aciditc levels to stablize the coconut water for packaging in steel cans. The higher aciditc levels destroy the nutritional contents. This is another important reason Zico is better because of its Tetra Paks do not require higher aciditc levels.

Coconut juice is not the same as the water that you get out of the coconut. They take the young flesh of the coconut along with the water inside and blend it together with the meat and then remove the as much of the solid material as possible. It is not just the water inside. As far the taste goes, Ghandi said that the seat of the taste buds are found in the mind. So if you think it is good for you, than you make it taste good. Otherwise, yes no food will ever taste better than when you eat it in the shade of the tree that it grew on.......

gatorade is toxic and made by pepsi cola. look it up. chemicals... sugar... coconut milk is broken down by the body very very easily, where gatorade adds toxins to the body and makes you thirstier. natural over unnatural? why is it that americans like doritos full of artificial colors and soft drinks which destroy bones. the FDA feeds us all this crap and then they dose us with high levels of pharmaceutical drugs cause were so sick! ask the question... why are we so sick? can it be the food we're being served by our gov't through the FDA? FOOD AND DRUG? administration? why is our food and our drugs governed by one and the same entity? please ask the question...

Gatorades great! That is if you like artificial colorings and flavorings. And that high fructose syrup is excellent for packing on the pounds. It even has a pixie dusting of electrolytes!

Gatorade is horrible! If you don't like the taste of something why write about it! Why don't you write about what you do like...I LOVE COCONUTS, COCONUT WATER...LOTION..COCONUT OIL...ANYTHING WITH COCONUT IN IT....BOTTOM LINE IS THAT IT'S REAL...STOP THE IGNORANCE AND START LOVING YOURSELF!!!

It's too bad that you must have a processed product like Gatorade. Even weirder is your "tribute blog" to Gatorade. Coconut juice is very good- Amy and Brian brand not the best representation. You're absolutely wrong to think that Gatorade is a nutritional equivilant, or better. For me, it'll be real food and nothing but.

Just to clear some things up.... It is Coconut Water; not Coconut Milk. Coconut milk develops as the coconut matures and the fat and proteins are developed inside. That process takes several months. Coconut water like O.N.E., Zico, VitaCoco, Amy & Brians, etc come from Green, young coconuts. Very different. Just like a fetus at 6 weeks is nothing like what it is at 9 months.
In addition to being an experienced marathoner and triathlete, I am a registered dietitian and sports nutrition/exercise science doctoral researcher and I think I speak from a whole body of personal and scientific research based experience when I say that there is no question which is the better choice. Gatorade isn't in my fridge, my cooler or my mouth. Ever.
