Pictures From Winning Formula Shoot

Jordanposada My most popular blogs have always been about the Gatorade "Winning Formula" commercial -- where all the moments are played with. As I said in previous blogs, they had actors fill the roles of the big players -- Posada, Jordan, Ehlo, Montana -- to go through all the motions and simulate the scenes.

Well, I recently got in touch with "Jorge Posada," otherwise known as Vincent Teixera. Teixera noted that the actors didn't get residuals for the spots, but he couldn't complain about the buyout he received from Gatorade.

Here are pictures of Teixera and some of the other actors. It's so funny to see these.

Gatorade Canada Web Site

One of our trusty sources e-mailed us that Tribal DDB in Canada helped Gatorade relaunch its Canadian site. We love how it opens and the site is pretty impressive and hockey intensive (duh, no surprise).

It includes all the staples we've come to expect -- plenty of research and comparisons -- and this site also has a Sidney Crosby Gatorade giveaway sweepstakes. They also tout a new flavor: "X-Factor 87" -- which is a Strawberry and Watermelon mixture with Crosby on the bottle.

They did a good job with the history section, minus the fact that Gatorade still won't acknowledge that the first dunk actually didn't involve Bill Parcells. As I say in my book, Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka was the first coach dunked.

And the only other thing that was strange (again, for the most part I liked the redesign) was that under "Athletes We Fuel," it was all men.

Gatorade.com by the way also looks great. They have some pretty cool wall paper and a great way to look at the athlete roster. I noticed two additions, volleyball players Mike Lambert and Stein Metger and wheelchair athlete John MacLean, who was the first wheelchair athlete to complete the Hawaii Ironman.

Gatorade Vs. Milk

Product_musclemilkGatorade Vs. Chocolate Milk is the forever recurring story. Newspapers love to keep running it again and again because it seems so contrary to popular opinion. The bottom line for me was that even if chocolate milk does have some recovery benefits over Gatorade, it doesn't matter because no one has effectively marketed a targeted milk just to athletes.

Well, not like it will ever it Gatorade a run for its money, but things have changed folks. Today, on the back of my copy of Sports Business Daily, I saw an add for a product I have previously never heard of.

It's called Muscle Milk. And they claim the Miami Hurricanes, UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, Stanford Cardinal, Colorado Buffaloes, ASU Sun Devils, FSU Seminoles, Hawaii Warriors, Cal Golden Bears and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as clients.

Muscle Milk is made by Cytosport and comes in some pretty unbelievable flavors, including: Chocolate Banana Crunch, Chocolate Mint Chip, Egg Nog and Strawberry Milk Shake.

It's an interesting play though it can never be compared to Gatorade. It has 18 grams of fat per serving and with two cups of milk, it's 640 calories. A drink gives you more than 60 percent of your daily protein.

Gatorade is not only for elite athletes. This drink clearly is. That's why it will forever be a niche market thing.

Gatorade Cake For Polar Bear

Polar_bearI've heard of plenty of Gatorade applications -- more than anyone in the world, most likely. But never this. Gatorade in a cake? Yep, MD Magnet -- the male polar bear at the Maryland Zoo -- turns 18 today. His giant ice cake is reportedly made up of frozen layers of Gatorade, along with lard, fish and produce. Yummy! In full journalistic disclosure, the guy to the left is actually just a random polar bear. They all look the same anyway.
