Gatorade Plant No. 10: Albany

Earlier this month, the folks at Gatorade signed a deal to build its tenth factory in Albany. The 900,000 square foot manufacturing plant also will have a 400,000 square foot bottle making plant. It's all expected to be up and running in Sept. 2008. The plant will reportedly cost $165 million to build.

Here is a list of where the other Gatorade manufacturing plants are:

  • Dallas, Texas
  • Atlanta, Ga.
  • Oakland, Calif.
  • Kissimmee, Fla.
  • Mountaintop, Pa.
  • Tolleson, Ariz.
  • Whytheville, Va.
  • Pryor, Okla.

When operational, the plant will product 1.6 billon cases each year.

Gatorade Expands Distribution in England

Gatorade Anyone who lives in the United Kingdom knows that Lucozade is the sports drink of choice. But Gatorade has made some strides recently. In January, drink maker Britvic started distributing the product throughout Great Britain. Now, we're hearing that Britvic is putting Gatorade -- only orange and lemon (I'm not sure if this is lemon-lime) -- into vending machines. Sales of sports drinks in the UK are expected to be worth $1.9 billion.

Gatorade And Clothing Stains

Wine_away I've written a ton of posts on Gatorade and somehow I've never written anything on Gatorade stains. How is this possible? I have permanently stained at least three pieces of clothing with Gatorade. To explore this topic, we go to the Austin American-Statesman, where this columnist named Jane Greig answers readers questions. This week, a woman named Kaye asked her how she gets red Gatorade out of clothing. Greig advocates picking up something called Wine Away (never heard of it). Greig goes on to say that "this is one of the stain-removal products the folks at Gatoarde suggest you try." I didn't realize they even would offer that, but I assume many people have asked the stain question before.

Did a little research and found out that this Wine Away is a product made by a company called Evergreen Labs. It's basically to get red wine stains out of clothing.

I'm back....

Opensign After a four month hiatus, I've decided to come back to the Gatorade blog. I left so that I could get things going following my leaving of ESPN. For those of you who don't know, I'm now the sports business reporter at CNBC. I kept the site alive because I wanted this to continue to serve as a resource to the many people who wanted to find out about Gatorade. To my surprise, even though I wasn't writing new stuff, I got about 1,000 hits a day. Hopefully everyone who enjoyed this in its previous iteration will find this and enjoy it again. It's good to be back!
