I just found a Gatorade Web site from England. It's http://www.isitinyou.co.uk/ and it seems like it's the official site. According to the site the Gatorade legend began when the drink helped the Florida Gators "turn around a losing streak, caused by dehydration in the heat of the Florida swamp." Um, no. There really wasn't any losing streak. The year before Gatorade was invented, in 1964, the Gators football team was 7-3. Their record in the year they first started drinking the sports drink? 7-4. As Seth Godin, author of the new book, "All Marketers Are Liars" would tell you, at least the story they try to tell us is compelling. Never let a good story get in the way of the facts, especially when Brits are not likely to have a University of Florida football guide lying around their house.
